  • The Cuenca Dinosaur Route should open by month’s end.

  • The people of Cuenca had the chance to meet one of the members of the Route in person and take photos with him.

Madrid, March 2015. Pepito, a life-size reproduction of the Concavenator corcovatus, was the chosen figure to act as ambassador and representative of the Dinosaur Route. In his visit to the FITUR tourism trade fair, and before returning home, Pepito was presented to the people of Cuenca last weekend in the gardens of the provincial council.

“Even if it was just for a few hours and a few days, we wanted to show that the image of Pepito can be associated with the city of Cuenca and the Provincial Council”, stated Benjamín Prieto, president of Cuenca provincial council.

The Dinosaur Route will open to the public at the end of the month, bringing a tourism boost to the city and a fresh dynamism to an area with low population density.

TALHER, the Clece group subsidiary that specialises in the environment, will be managing the route in its entirety as it passes through 15 different places in the province. Starting at ‘Lo Hueco’ archaeological site in Fuentes, the route takes in Cañada del Hoyo and the areas of los Palancares and Tierra Muerta, ending at ‘Las Hoyas’ archaeological site in La Cierva.

The presentation by the city council was attended by the second vice-president of the provincial council, Julián Huete; the council’s Tourism representative, Francisco Javier Domenech; and the Development representative, Javier Parrilla. From TALHER/Clece, the event was attended by the delegates Bautista Gutiérrez, Eduardo Mena, Pedro Pérez and David Carrasco. Also present was Francisco Ortega, one of the palaeontologists responsible for the discoveries made in the area.
