A ton of solidarity

More than a ton of food donated. This is the fantastic result of the One breakfast, one kilo campaign that ran in the cafeterias of four hospitals and a university in Catalonia, and five cafeterias in Mallorca on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on 17 October.

The campaign was carried out with the help of the Clece catering division, which runs the cafeteria service in the ten centres that took part: the Hospital Arnau in Vilanova and the Hospital Santa Maria in Lleida; the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Hospital de Viladecans and the Bellvitge University Hospital, and Cafetería TGSS la Rambla, Es Cafetó, Es Fornet, Cafetería Llar de la Joventut and Cafetería IB3 in Palma de Mallorca.

With this initiative, customers at the cafeterias who wanted to take part have received a free breakfast in exchange for providing a kilogram of food, with 672 kg collected. The Clece Catering division added another 500 kg, with company staff donating a further 114 kg, for a grand total of 1,278 kg.

By centres, the Arnau (Vilanova) and Santa Maria (Lleida) hospitals collected 140 kg, which were then donated to Arrels Sant Ignasi in Lleida. The Autonomous University of Barcelona donated 110 kg to Rebost Solidari in Cerdanyola. The Hospital de Viladecans collected 62 kg for the Red Cross in Viladecans. The Bellvitge University Hospital donated 180 kg for the Red cross in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, and cafeterias TGSS la Rambla, IB3, Es Cafetó, Es Fornet and Llar de la Joventut, collected 180 kg for the Mallorca Food Bank. Finally, the 114 kg of food donated by the Clece Catalonia offices were given to Casa Gregal in Poblenou.

The Neteges i Manteniment company from the Deyse group also took part in the initiative, contributing a full load of cleaning and hygiene products and materials.
