Talher to develop the “Dinosaurs of Cuenca Route”

  • Talher will design the route around the palaeontological heritage of Cuenca through the villages of Fuentes, La Cierva and Cañada del Hoyo

  • Exhibition areas, brand image, a website and mobile apps are some of the initiatives included in the project

  • The route will be completed in February 2015 at a cost of €371,000

29 September 2014. The “Dinosaurs of Cuenca Route”, a project that will showcase the important palaeontological heritage of the province, will be carried out by Talher. The Clece Group company, which specialises in environmental works and services, has been awarded the overall museum management project.

The dinosaurs route will show visitors the main palaeontological discoveries in the province through the Cuenca villages of Fuentes, La Cierva and Cañada del Hoyo, where the main archaeological sites are located. Among other points of interest, the route will have an indoor and outdoor museum in Fuentes with reproductions of the fossils found in the area in 2007, and a full-size recreation of the six-metre-long jointed skeleton of a Concavenator sauropod dinosaur discovered at the site in Las Hoyas in 2003.

To make the route and its main points of interest a reality, Talher will be in charge of contracting out the supplies, services and works associated with adapting the architectural spaces and elements to be found along the way. The company will also develop various projects aimed at boosting existing knowledge and re-evaluating the palaeontological heritage of Cuenca. “This is a key project and a very attractive one that combines archaeology, the environment and tourism, explains David Carrasco Gonzalo, manager of the image, events and exhibitions department at Clece. It’s a real motivation to form part of a project that is set to boost tourism in the area, by focusing attention on a range of elements currently looked after by Cuenca Provincial Council.”

Developing a visible route, creating the brand image, preparing the exhibition spaces and themed areas, and developing a website and mobile applications are just some of the elements included in the contract. Specifically, Talher will undertake the following works:

  • Developing a route that can be visited with 12 identified points of geological and palaeontological interest using a system of georeferenced markers along the route
  • Adapting spaces and other architectural elements relating to the museum:
    • Outdoor exhibition area in La Cierva, with a series of sculptures
    • Themed area in the palaeontological site at Lo Hueco in Fuentes with a series of sculptures
    • Exhibition room in the Cañada del Hoyo municipal building
    • Exhibition room in the Fuentes multi-purpose municipal building
  • Design for a communication plan defining the elements of a “Cuenca Dinosaurs Route” visual brand identity
  • Design and implementation of a specific application about the route that can be downloaded to smartphones, and creating and installing a website with information on the route

The “Cuenca Dinosaur Route” route will be completed in February 2015 at a cost of €371,000. The project forms part of the Tourism Infrastructure Improvement Plan for the province of Cuenca.
