ADRA GOES TO TOWN CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL DAY OF OLDER PERSONS

The town of Adra commemorated International Day of Older Persons on 1st October by holding its IV Elderly Persons Week. This involved a series of events organised by Adra Town Hall working in collaboration with Clece. The celebration commenced at the Adra Care Home for the Elderly. Those attending were Manuel Cortés, Adra’s Mayor, Diego López, Clece’s Manager for the Province, Maria Luisa Berenguer, the Director of the Care Home, well -known people from the town, and users and professionals at the centre.

Activities organised throughout the week aimed to promote social interaction with elderly people, improve their morale, and encourage their interest in socialising. Amongst the activities on offer were the traditional healthy breakfast, followed by a series of make-up and handicrafts workshops, and parachute games, etc.

On Wednesday, the second day of the event, more than a hundred elderly people enjoyed a visit to the city of Malaga, with arrangements adapted to meet their needs. On day 3, Thursday, a Gala took place at the Adra Cultural Centre as a Celebration of Elderly Persons. Singer María Lozano performed traditional Spanish songs (Copla) at the event.

Enthusiasm for this type of celebration and the large number of elderly people participating were key to the success of the IV Elderly Persons Week in Adra.
