Clece to manage support staff at Basketball Wold Cup in Gran Canaria

The temporary joint venture formed by Clece and SET Soluciones has been awarded the contract for ‘Specific Works for the 2014 Basketball Wold Cup’ by the Island Sports Institute, belonging to the Gran Canaria Island Council The purpose of the contract is to provide and co-ordinate support staff for events, activities and programmes organised as part of the major sporting event to be held in Gran Canaria from 30 August to 14 September.

As well as organising the competition itself and some of the preparatory matches between various countries, the contract also includes organising support events and activities such as a fan zone. The space itself will be in the Santa Catalina park, and will act as the nerve centre for all fans. The contract for the temporary joint venture amounts to €164,612, with 16,800 hours of work to be carried out.

This will be the second time that the Basketball Wold Cup has been held in Spain, with different games to be played in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Granada, Bilbao and Gran Canaria. The event is expected to attract more than 600,000 fans, and will be broadcast to 800 million people around the world. “It’s a world event, which carries with it a weight of responsibility,” commented service manager Albert Piñol. “We are really excited about the project, and our extensive experience in managing teams will be a guarantee to cover any staffing need that may arise in an event of this magnitude, which will help to ensure a successful organisation.”
