Perla arrived from the Dominican Republic when she was 17. “My parents came here first and then decided to bring us with them. Five brothers and sisters”. I didn’t want to stop studying, but I had to help the family. Caritas made us aware of a program that allows you to combine work and study. “My salary allows the family to have the stability that we didn’t have before. On a personal level, it has allowed me to be useful to society and to myself”. Perla knows just what she has achieved through her efforts: “before I had nothing. Now I can say I have a job and I am studying”.
